Braces-Friendly Thanksgiving Recipe

When you visit UC Smiles Orthodontics, you'll be glad to know that you'll always be getting the best when it comes to compassionate orthodontic care from a San Antonio orthodontist. Not only are we glad to go above and beyond when it comes to exceptional orthodontic treatments, such as Invisalign and braces, but we're also here to make sure that your treatment is as convenient as possible. Since the holiday season is quickly arriving, we'd like to help out in making them a little more delicious with this simple recipe that's perfect for those patients who are wearing braces.

Pumpkin Gingerbread Recipe

One of the most disappointing things about the holidays when you're wearing braces is that there are so many terrific holiday treats that you have to miss out on because they're not braces-friendly. You'll have to avoid anything hard like nuts and you'll have to avoid anything that's sticky, such as caramel. It can really put a limit on what you can actually eat for dessert. No need to worry though - your San Antonio orthodontist and orthodontic team have you covered in this area for the holiday! Try out this pumpkin gingerbread recipe. Not only is it perfectly safe for a patient with braces, but it's deliciously sweet and sure to satisfy your cravings this Thanksgiving.

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil and eggs; beat until smooth. Add water and beat until well blended. Stir in pumpkin, ginger, allspice, cinnamon, and clove.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. Add dry ingredients to pumpkin mixture and blend just until all ingredients are mixed. Divide batter between prepared pans.

Bake in preheated oven until toothpick comes out clean, about 1 hour.
